Consumer Electronics brand Sharp is steadily strengthening its reach in the European market with a range of Google TVs. Following the same strategy, the company has launched its HR7 series of new Google TVs featuring a QLED display panel. What makes this range unique is the inclusion of HDMI 2.1 support that allows up to 120Hz or 144Hz gaming when connected to a game console or PC.
While HDMI 2.1 originally debuted on flagship models, it is now coming to the mid-range segment. Hisense 2026 U7 ULED MiniLED TV and TCL 2025 QD-Mini LED TVs are some of the latest examples. Sharp’s HR7 also includes two HDMI 2.1 ports along with eARC, ALLM (Automatic Low Latency Mode), and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), which is supported by modern game consoles.
These ports allow game consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to output games at up to 4K @120Hz. It is a significant upgrade over the 4K @60Hz limitations of HDMI 2.0, ensuring a much smoother gameplay experience. For PC gamers, the Sharp HR7 supports even faster gameplay at up to 4K@144Hz.
As per the official website, the new Sharp HR7 series uses a VA LCD panel with a direct LED backlight and a Quantum Dot (QLED) layer. These TVs can reproduce up to 92 percent of the colors in the DCI.P3 gamut and up to 78 percent of the BT.2020 gamut. While it does support Dolby Vision, it lacks the local dimming zones found on Mini-LED models.

As noted by HDTVtest, the new Sharp HR7 Google TVs are available in a range of sizes from 43-inches to 65-inches, with prices starting at about €400 (approx. $460), which go up to €700 ($800) for the largest model. The Sharp HR7 series of QLED TVs may not be suitable for those who want the best cinematic image quality when watching TV shows and movies. However, it is the HDMI 2.1 ports that make it perfect for avid gamers.
