Florence has two of my favorite things, great art and Renaissance architecture. Adding my third to the stunning city’s profile is La Marzocco, Florence’s manufacturer of premium coffee equipment since the early 1900s, which has launched a brand new coffee grinder with so much to offer that it might be the only appliance I would put on my kitchen counter.

Dubbed the Swan coffee grinder, the modern coffee gadget features an anti-static system, nearly zero retention, an advanced motor, and belt-driven burrs for lessened heat build-up to offer the perfect espresso shot.

The Swan is designed with an anti-static system to eliminate the static charge that coffee picks up during grinding and clings to surfaces and sprays everywhere. This anti-static tech uses an electrical charge to remove static electricity from the ground coffee, making the process smoother and easier.

While most espresso grinders fight this issue by pushing the coffee through a chute or flap and end up causing the clumping, the Swan lets the coffee fall freely into the portafilter in a fluffy pile, without any clumps. Moreover, the grinder removes the reliance on an internal grinding chute allowing the coffee to directly fall from the burr set, which helps achieve minimal ground coffee retention and creates less waste.

La Marzocco has also used an advanced motor controller to keep a steady burr speed. It also keeps track of burr speed and number of rotations to help program new metric of coffee dose, while the offset-belt driven motor diminishes heat build-up. The programmable dose system and button-less portafilter detection sets the coffee grinder apart from its competitors. It will also help make life easier for busy baristas.

Although sporting a gaudy exterior, the Swan coffee grinder reflects nearly 100 years of experience in the espresso machine invention of the maker with its anti-static system, zero retention, and advanced motor. The grinder combines design elements from the entire La Marzocco espresso machine lineup.

Its accessible burrs and robust motor system allow for easy maintenance and user-friendliness. With precise engineering and consistent coffee grinds, the Swan is a must-have for die-hard coffee aficionados. Maybe I will get one, once I learn how to brew my fresh pot of caffeinated goodness.
