Featuring at the DesignTO, the Tactil by Futil Studio is a collection of biomorphic furniture and lighting that reinvents the ancient art of scagliola for the contemporary world. Designed by Montreal-based designer Alexandre Berthiaume, the collection of utilitarian sculptures fuses 3D-printed cores with hand-applied scagliola and cutting-edge technology.

The unique, artisanal, and utilitarian sculptures showcase a blend of scientific fabrication and traditional craftsmanship, creating tactile surfaces with soft pigments. Each piece elevates the aesthetics of any space with its soft and free-flowing form.

Possessing a sensual feel, the name ‘Tactil’ emphasizes the importance of touch and physical interaction with objects. The hand-crafted nature of each hand-shaped scagliola surface ensures absolute uniqueness in every piece.

The creation is a hybrid process. It starts with large-format 3D printing, which is used to create complex forms inspired by nature and living beings. Then the designer elevates the structures by applying the traditional Italian scagliola technique and reinvents the pieces with his hands. Further, the incorporation of natural pigments ensures uniqueness in its surface and experience in spite of production in a series. Nature and modernity are blended for a beautiful look.

The utilitarian sculptures possess undeniable organic sensuality and fluidity while capturing the essence of movement. The pieces celebrate the imperfection of forms with various structural shapes.

The lamps look like shining pearls inside a deformed flower, while the chair is stylish and minimalistic, an aesthetic addition to any residential or commercial space. With each piece holding its uniqueness, all the pieces in the Tactil collection by Futil Studio are natural and soft colored with intriguing forms.
