Tom Fereday, an Australian graphic designer has created art in collaboration with revered brands and is celebrated at multiple international art and furniture galleries. Drawn by the fascination that lies between natural materials and contemporary design and manufacture, Tom creates a lounge chair made entirely from recycled aluminum.

Cove Lounge Chair is largely seen as a part of a wider furniture collection by the designer Tom Frereday comprising a table and sofa. The chair comes as an end result of the ingenious crafting of repurposed industrial waste streams of Sydney’s machining industry. Melting down the waste and processing it through sand casting helps in creating it into the desired form.

The bold aesthetics of the chair comprises a large cushioned seat and backrest with side panels made from uninterrupted and highly polished metal. Creating a visual appeal is a protruding lip on its top edge offering extra arm space. The chair’s frame is mirror-polished and joined by aluminum dowels for creating that seamless one-unit flow throughout its make.

With cushion upholstered in aniline leather colored with soluble dyes, the Cove Lounge Chair is an eco-friendly and visually appealing piece of furniture. Soft curves, hard metal and ingenious design come together to display minimal cove forms found in architecture through this chair. This lounge chair presents itself as a designer’s work celebrating material and process at large.

To lessen the negative environmental impact, the chair is easily transported flat-packed and can be assembled using a single Allen key. The Cove Lounge chair creates a functional and meaningful furniture piece for the spaces it occupies. It comes in single (chair) and two-seat variants (sofa).
