These mesmerizing sculptures can be easily mistaken for tables with water but they are just glass and concrete creations beautifully handcrafted by London-based artist Ben Young. Having grown up near the Bay of Plenty on the northern coast of New Zealand’s North Island, Ben is seriously into the world of oceans and his fanaticism reflects in his surreal sculptures.
What makes his art more interesting is the fact that these sculptures are not made using any computerized or 3D-printing technologies. In fact, these works are hand-drawn, hand-cut, and handcrafted from clear sheet float glass. The final form is achieved by laminating layer upon layer. The glass cutouts represent water while concrete mimics rocky surfaces within or around ocean water.
Ben has crafted a number of sculptures to date and some of them are named – Fjord, Rough Waters, NewLands, The Divide, Blowing in the Wind, Pinnacle, etc. He sculpts these dreamlike interpretations of oceanic landscapes in spellbinding creativity.
