UK-based HPW Architecture believes in second chances, and it shows in the way the architectural firm has utilized upcycled components and reimagined materials to create a dog kennel for the 2026 Barkitecture. Dubbed the Star Paws Sleeping Module, the dog kennel is designed for Murphy, a rescue dog from the Blue Cross who nearly vanished in the darkness, but the light of love brought him back. The space-themed kennel celebrates imagination, transformation, sustainability, and character, transforming everyday discarded objects into a cosmic refuge for the dog.

The design of the kennel embodies the beauty of transformation, where every component has been meticulously selected, adapted, and turned into a solid structure that feels handcrafted, ultramodern, and full of persona. The mechanical parts and exposed details lend the kennel a playful space punk aesthetic, giving the pod an honest, tactile, and delightfully engineered feel.

The main capsule is the heart of the structure and Murphy’s nesting nook. It is crafted using a polished, stainless steel reclaimed washing machine drum, which the maker reinterpreted as a pod hovering through space with the canine cuddling inside. The exterior of the kennel is space-ready, but inside, a warm and cozy world unfolds with soft upholstery and LED lighting, creating a snug, welcoming, and celestial retreat for Murphy.

To anchor the Star Paws Sleeping Module, four vintage weights are used, so the pod doesn’t float away into the abyss. The four glinting landing legs add stability, ensuring a smooth and safe touchdown.

Murphy won’t get bored at all with all his favorite treats and toys already stocked in probe-like arms extending from the structure. Each of these arms holds openable metal saucers filled with unlimited surprises, nodding to space station storage and scientific exploration playfully. The helium balloons appear to be holding the pod aloft, giving an illusion of lightness and adding a sense of whimsy to the intergalactic structure.

“HPW’s very own Springador and Barkitecture CEO, Hugo, took Murphy’s brief and brought it to life with a kennel design that feels truly out of this world. Murphy now spends his days gently bobbing in his anti-gravity pod, surrounded by his favourite toys, soft ambient lighting, and the soothing hum of his silver capsule. From here, he dreams of his next game of ultimate fetch, whether back on Earth or on whichever planet he lands on next.”

This space-age dog kennel is more than a piece of structure; it’s beating with emotional pulse. The Star Paws Sleeping Module narrates the story of Murphy, through metaphors, who got the chance to live again, reinvent, and transform himself. The pod is an embodiment of magic that happens when design, empathy, and love collide in the middle of the cosmos.
