Beam Camp, a summer Camp in New Hampshire for kids, had organized the international competition to build a unique project within the budget of $10,000. A team of two architectural students Federico Forestiero and Mark David Torrens has designed the unique human-powered floating berth dubbed Creatura that seems as if a creature is moving on surface of the lake. The interesting thing about the project is that it is built by active participation of children present at the summer camp.

Creatura is a 25-square meter floating structure made of wooden, metallic and woven materials. The major section of the berth comprises of laminated plywood ribs along with timber deck frame combined with 24 plastic barrels. This structure glides on the lake’s surface with a mechanism, combining combines principles of Leonardo da Vinci with the rotating paddles, the human wheel and the cycling paddles.

The human wheel rotates when a person walks in forward direction within the circular roller. Aside hamster-wheel, it can also be moved with the help of cycling paddles and rotating handles using entire arm strength. Due to its unique design that offers creative recreational podium to children, the project won the competition this year and was highly appreciated by the organizers. Check out the images given below to view various sections of the design.
