We have found a perfect shelf for all the book nerds out there. Meet the Leather-Bound Floating Bookshelf crafted by Instructables member Heck Yes Arts. This floating bookshelf is ideal for keeping your to-be-read (TBR) books stacked in one place, as the maker has conspicuously labeled TBR on the spine of the shelf. Being an ardent book lover simply means that we can fill up a whole space with books and it still won’t be enough, but to have even a little space designated to our books makes us happy. The leather-bound Floating bookshelf is perfect to give an honorable pedestal for the TBR pile that you probably won’t be reading for the next two years.

The shelf hides a basic wooden structure underneath that supports the outer leather casing of the book. The initial building process marks plywood cut into several triangular pieces of different shapes and sizes with the use of a small table saw. Then the pieces were joined together using glue and brad nails to form the base. The base can be mounted on the wall with the help of pan-head type screws to hold the structure swiftly going through the wood and into the wall acting as a center point.

For the book’s spine shape, the designer worked on the case frame using plywood and foam board. More foam shapes were created, covered, and smoothed out with craft foam for a refined shape. Then comes the leather bounding giving the shelf its unique characteristic.

The best part, however, is that the designer used recycled leather, repurposed from an old reading chair to cover this shelf. How poetic is that? He then used spray glue to wrap the leather upholstery and added the fake pages to distinctively mirror an actual book. He etched the little details like gold lettering.

It has the structure of a book with the spine of a vintage book featuring a leather-bound exterior. It is an out-of-the-box thought that has been well executed by the maker. This goofy and playful bookshelf goes beyond the traditional structure of bookshelves. At the same time paying homage to an actual traditional bookbinding in the most innovative manner. Undoubtedly, the leather-bound Floating Bookshelf has all the charm and beauty to infuse your walls with new life.
