Karim Rashid – a laureate of the American Prize for Design 2020 with many accolades to his name – needs no introduction. We have covered his works quite extensively on Homecrux. Recently, he designed a table for the glass furniture brand Tonelli Design. Dubbed the Lilypad table, the piece of furniture was designed in 2023 and was launched at Salone in 2024. It subtly mimics the shape of water lily leaves, gently undulating on the water’s surface.

The Lilypad table creates a soft environment with its fluid shapes and portrays an extension of the natural environment in the living spaces. It features three separate tabletop shapes that appear like three lily pods.

The tabletop seems to float on the glass base. All the glass pieces are welded together. Only an experienced designer like Karim could achieve such a feat. He posted some pictures of the Lilypad table on his Instagram page and even shared a short video telling his followers about the design philosophy behind the unique table.

Talking about Lilypad, the designer highlights that the brand is passionate about creating furniture objects that use glass as a basic building material. The Lilypad table is characterized by two heights that can be paired or displayed separately. Karim explains that his design is inspired by the late 40s when there was an amorphous movement in different areas of art. He believes the soft, rounded furniture with fluid design mirrors human lives.

The Lilypad table is designed to be used in various settings. It imitates the beauty of water lilies in a prepossessing manner. The use of three different shades of glass makes it look even more beautiful. The frosted base and the mirror at the bottom add a distinctive character to the furniture.
