3D printing has emerged as a fun way to integrate interiors with quaint household items that add a distinct character to your space. A case in point is the Haibu Suspension lamp designed by Vittorio Paradiso for Italian furniture manufacturer Paolo Castelli. The designer collaborated with WASP, an Italian firm with expertise in the design and production of 3D printing, to transform his idea into reality with computational design.

Taking inspiration from the structure of a beehive, these 3D-printed outdoor suspension lamps use clay as the primary material. The process allows for exceptional accuracy and uniformity of texture in each lamp. The 3D printer layers the clay to create a consistent design pattern, providing each piece refined exterior.

Part of the Acquerello collection, the Haibu suspension is available in two versions: more elongated and taper-shaped or lower and wider-shaped. These lamps are sustainable in both their materials and production. The computational model pushes the boundaries of 3D printing, dispositioning part of the material mid-air.

After the printing process, the clay naturally collapses on itself slightly to lend it an organic and unexpected pattern. This transition shows minor gaps and patterns from wherein light shines through to softly illuminate your space. This design is a combination of cutting-edge technology and natural materials that can illuminate both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Paolo Castelli says, “Haibu Suspension Lamps blend forward-thinking design with natural inspiration, mimicking the structure of a beehive. Combining light, 3D printing, and versatile stoneware, these lamps are perfect for adding a sculptural touch to any outdoor space.”

These lamps draw their light source from a 35-watt LED strip with a color temperature of 3000 K. Each lamp weighs about 25 kg (about 55 lbs). With the sculptural Haibu Suspension lamps, you can turn your outdoors into an enchanting and enigmatic environment.
