UAE-based design studio Karim+Elias has created the Desert Drop coffee table, which explores the unlikely relationship between two compatible elements: water and sand. The designer duo, Karim Tamerji and Elias El Hage created the furniture by taking inspiration from the arid and harsh desertscape.

The natural base of the table resembles the undulating desert dunes resting beneath a melted sheet of crystal glass, which replicates the fluid state and color of oasis water. Measuring 5 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 3 feet high, the coffee table beautifully draws a connection between the two elements.

These natural elements – water and sand – come together to create a harmonious and tangible furniture piece. The designers strike a subtle balance between form and function with the Desert Drop coffee table.

This coffee table creates a mind-boggling illusion through its unique design. The tabletop has bumps wherever the glass touches the top of the base elements, adding a distinguished charm to the table. This almost conspicuous metamorphosis gives a feeling of glass melting on top of these dunes but remains solidified. For a mirage-like appearance, the base elements are further embellished with the contours of the dunes.

The Desert Drop coffee table features different characteristics, but sand is one thing that binds them, as glass is made of sand. When sand and other raw materials are melted under high temperatures, transparent glass is formed. The Desert Drop table is an elegant and organic reflection of this process of transformation.
