With summer rolling in again, the grills are out in full force. We have already seen Smeg, Ninja, Masterbuilt, and Weber drop their respective models and witnessed several Kickstarter campaigns try their luck too. So when Traeger dropped the Flatrock 2 Zone griddle yesterday, I couldn’t wait to see if it would live up to the hype.

The original Flatrock 3 Zone was tempting but felt like bringing a tank to picnic. It is too big, too much. The 2 Zone, though? It’s like Traeger read customers’ minds and tailored it for them, especially for those who have a smaller backyard. At just 33 inches wide and $700, it fits the space and budget of any grilling enthusiast.

The griddle boasts two propane burners that fire up quickly, pumping heat up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit for that perfect burger sear. But here’s the kicker: You can keep one side low and slow for onions or eggs while the other’s blazing away.

“Two separate cooking zones let you simultaneously cook at different temps with TruZone total temperature control. Heatshield Insulation separates each cooking zone for truly independent temp control,” states the maker.

On top of that, the side shelves fold down when you are tight on space and pop up when you need to house your tongs or a cold beer. Then there’s the P.A.L. (Pop-And-Lock), which functions as a handy ledge for hooks or a tray, keeping your grilling gear organized. There is a grease keg to catch all the drippings from the cooking process.

Sure, I miss that smoky pellet-grill vibe sometimes, but this griddle’s got its charm. It’s not about the wood flavor, but about nailing every dish you throw at it. Capacity-wise, the Flatrock 2 Zone griddle makes room for 18 burgers, 20 eggs, or 22 bacon strips (whatever you prefer). It’s plenty big for my crew.

Traeger has jumped in at just the right time with the Flatrock 2 Zone, and it’s got everything that a good griddle should come equipped with. As per the press release, it’s hitting stores soon, and I’m betting it won’t be long on the shelves.
