We have seen several dog kennel designs at Goodwoof Bakitecture every year. But the latest kennel from British architecture firm George and James Architects is by far the strangest. The West Sussex-based architectural firm has designed a dog kennel dubbed ‘A Whippet in Sheep’s Clothing’ that looks more like a sculpture and less like a dog house.
Crafted from curved plywood, the kennel’s smooth, flowing lines mimic the silhouette of a whippet in motion. The exterior of the kennel is adorned with locally sourced sheepskins, creating the illusion of a grazing sheep, a playful reference to the phrase “a wolf in sheep’s clothing”.
Inside, the same sheepskin lines the interior, offering Archi (George and James Architects’ dog) a cozy, tactile retreat that feels like a natural extension of the pastoral world he loves. The design looks like a thoughtful fusion of form, function, and narrative.
“A Whippet in Sheep’s Clothing is a sculptural kennel inspired by the playful yet serene nature of Archi, our whippet, and the rolling landscapes of the South Downs. Crafted from curved plywood, the form echoes both the sleek contours of a whippet in motion and the organic shapes of the countryside,” states the maker.
From a design standpoint, the dog kennel strikes a balance between aesthetics and functionality, providing a serene space for the canine to rest while doubling as a sculptural piece that blends seamlessly into its surroundings. It’s a testament to George and James Architects’ commitment to creating designs that nurture both the physical and emotional well-being of its canine companions.

This isn’t the first time George and James Architects have made waves at Barkitecture. The firm has become a regular at Goodwoof, with A Whippet in Sheep’s Clothing marking its third consecutive year at the event.
In 2023, the firm debuted the Agility Desk, a multifunctional piece that combined a dog bed with a workspace for owners. The following year, Archi’s Travelling Trunk showcased its knack for blending practicality with storytelling, offering a portable kennel inspired by vintage travel aesthetics. Each year, the firm pushes the boundaries of canine design, and 2025’s entry is no exception.
Like all other designs exhibited at the event, A Whippet in Sheep’s Clothing will then be auctioned on Bonhams to raise funds for Goodwoof’s official charity partner, Wild at Heart.
