“Unlike competitors that offer single-purpose robots, SwitchBot delivers a complete robot ecosystem,” Richard Mou, Co-Founder of SwitchBot, informs in an exclusive interview with Homecrux. Hot on the heels of the world’s first retrofittable smart lock with facial recognition launch, SwitchBot has now made the K20+ Pro, a multitasking household robot, available for purchase on its website.

“The K20+ Pro embodies our vision of a truly multifunctional home assistant. We wanted to design a robot that goes beyond single-purpose use. By integrating vacuuming, air purification, security monitoring, and delivery, we address multiple household needs in one cohesive platform. This reflects our belief that future home robots should offer holistic value rather than isolated functions,” Mou informs.

Those who follow consumer tech innovations closely would remember the K20+ Pro prototype from CES this year, which was compared with Rosie the robot and even a transformer by the media. As revealed, the K20+ Pro retains most of the features from its CES showcase and combines vacuum cleaner, home security, air purification, and smart delivery features in a single intelligent platform, kickstarting a new trend in home automation. Priced at $699, the multi-tasking robot is available for purchase at SwitchBot’s official website starting June 9, 2025.

All these features are possible courtesy of D-ToF LiDAR Navigation and dual laser sensors that allow K20+ Pro to map your home with centimeter-level precision. The best part? K20+ Pro pairs effortlessly with Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri, and the broader SwitchBot Ecosystem. Not to mention, the remote control functionality makes it suitable for families with children, seniors, and pets, acting as both a caretaker and a versatile assistant.

First leaked by HomeKitNews, SwitchBot is also preparing a new Matter-enabled smart hub called the SwitchBot Hub 3. As a third iteration of the company’s Matter-enabled hub, the device exposes SwitchBot’s other devices to Matter platforms. The upcoming device has a display like its predecessor, but adds physical controls including delightful knob. Mou confirmed this, stating, “When our AI Hub is officially launched (which is three days from now), I believe K20+ Pro can be even more helpful with this AI-driven system to process all the data our sensors pick up.”

Mou’s fascination with robotics began long before SwitchBot. With a background in consumer electronics and IoT, Mou saw the potential for robots to transform daily life by bringing intelligence and convenience to our environments. “My love for robotics grew from a belief that robots will fundamentally change how we live,” he shares. This vision led to the creation of SwitchBot, a company built on the idea that smart home upgrades shouldn’t require replacing existing appliances or rewiring homes.

SwitchBot’s first product, the SwitchBot Bot, a compact ‘Finger Robot’ that retrofits existing switches and buttons, was praised by reviewers for its versatility, easy scheduling, and ability to turn a dumb device into a smart one. The $30 device allowed users to automate lights, appliances, and more without expensive renovations. This retrofitting philosophy remains at the core of SwitchBot’s mission, making advanced technology accessible to everyday households. “We noticed most consumers wanted cost-effective and easy-to-install options,” Mou explained, highlighting the company’s focus on practicality and inclusivity.

SwitchBot’s journey began with a successful Kickstarter campaign that resonated with early adopters eager for simple, innovative solutions. “Since then, the company has grown exponentially, now serving over two million users worldwide,” Mou claims. “The journey has been incredibly rewarding. Our community values innovation and simplicity, and their support drives us to keep pushing boundaries,” he said.

This growth has been fueled by a steady stream of innovative products, including SwitchBot S10, SwitchBot Curtain 3, Lock Ultra Vision Combo, Hub 3 (in pipeline), and the now available K20+ Pro. Unlike competitors such as Roborock, Narwal, and Dreame that focus on single-purpose robots, SwitchBot’s ecosystem approach sets it apart. By integrating robots, sensors, and AI, SwitchBot creates a seamless, interconnected home where devices work in harmony. The company’s commitment to Matter certification ensures compatibility with broader smart home ecosystems, but the AI Hub takes interoperability to the next level, enabling robots to respond intelligently to real-time needs.

“SwitchBot is also developing a robotic arm for the K20+ Pro, which will enable it to interact with objects more dynamically, picking up items or assisting with light household tasks. This innovation brings SwitchBot closer to its vision of a truly helpful home assistant, capable of adapting to diverse needs,” Mou reveals.

As robotics and automation become more prevalent, some worry that they may lead to lethargy. Mou disagrees, arguing that well-designed robots enhance life by freeing up time for meaningful activities. “By taking over repetitive tasks, robots give people back time to focus on creativity, connection, and well-being,” he said. That said, SwitchBot’s ecosystem is designed to encourage a balanced lifestyle, not replace human effort.

Looking ahead, SwitchBot envisions a future where robots are trusted, seamless members of the home. “The AI Hub will act as the ‘brain,’ orchestrating tasks and responding naturally to human needs. From cleaning and organizing to security and beyond, the home will transition from manual control to AI-driven orchestration,” Mou said, describing this evolution as “Smart Home 2.0: Embodied AI.”

While SwitchBot remains focused on home automation, Mou hinted at potential expansion into new categories like TVs, speakers, or projectors. “We’ll see,” he said with a wink, leaving the door open for future innovations.
