I’ve always been drawn to the idea of camping: Trekking high up the mountain, pitching a tent, lighting a campfire, and watching the stars twinkle from inside a transparent tent sounds like a perfect adventure to me. But let’s be honest, it’s not always as dreamy as it sounds. I’ve spent too many nights shivering in my sleeping bag or waking up in a sweaty tent, wishing for a way to make the outdoors feel a bit more like home. That’s why, when I came across the Crua Culla Adapt, I felt like I had hit pay dirt.
Currently a subject of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, Crua Culla Adapt is a tent within a tent. To put that into context, it’s an inner tent that slides into your existing setup, whether it’s a beat-up dome tent or a fancy rooftop model. The insulated inner tent then turns any existing tent into a cozy, quiet, temperature-controlled haven.
This is possible courtesy of Crua’s patented insulation, ‘CruaBreathe Technology,’ which keeps campers warm during winter and cool when summer is at its peak. “The patented insulation helps retain heat in cold climates and blocks heat in warmer months, thus maintaining a comfortable interior temperature, regardless of the weather outside,” the company states.
The tent boasts 7.5ft x 5.6ft of footprint, thus giving enough room for two adults to stretch, store gear, and breathe. The inner tent can expand or contract in length, width, and height, and as per the company, “is compatible with pretty much any tent,” which means you don’t have to drop a fortune on a new one.
In addition to offering compatibility and full climate control, the tent also dampens noise. What this implies is that you can block out chirping birds or campers in other tents (in case there are any) and immerse yourself in the tranquillity you came for. Another big question everyone would have in their mind is about the Crua Culla Adapt pitching time.
Let’s be honest, the most irritating part about camping is pitching the tent. I mean, personally speaking, I can’t afford to work another half hour dangling with carabiner, guylines, and rainfly. But that is not the case with Crua Culla Adapt, which presumably relies on an airbeam setup. “Setting up your inner tent shouldn’t feel like a puzzle. With Culla Adapt, it’s fast, manual, and dead simple – no ropes, poles, or nonsense. You can go from packed down to pitched in under 10 seconds,” the company points.
The tent also features a covered opening near the central hub that allows stale air to rise and escape naturally without sacrificing insulation. Two fully rollable mesh windows with built-in braces let you keep airflow active at all times. Other features include three adjustable large vents and a couple of doors with vents.

On a little downside, the Culla Adapt is an inner tent, not a standalone outer tent. It’s designed to be used inside another tent or structure, hence the fabric it’s made of is not waterproof on its own. All said and done, the Cula Adapt comes with its set of pros and cons. But, if you are someone who has cherished Crua tents over the years, the Culla Adapt is available for preorder on Kickstarter at $299 early bird price.
