Halloween is celebrated differently by everyone. Most people go all out with store-bought decorations and add their own creative touches. But only a few show true dedication to their festive home decoration, like Ohio-based Alan Perkins. With the festive season approaching fast, Alan has built a larger-than-life Halloween display in his front yard featuring a LEGO-themed skeleton mega figure nearly as tall as his house. The setup is complemented by an original 12-foot skeleton from Home Depot and a giant Jack-o’-lantern.

The MegaFig is made from compression foam with a metal armature inside for strength and stability. Standing nearly 161 inches (13.4 feet) tall, it looks exactly like the original Floppy Arm Skeleton minifigure. Alan used precise caliper measurements on his minifigure and scaled everything up 100 times. For example, he turned a 0.400-inch head thickness into 40 inches wide to ensure accurate dimensions.

Alan found EPS compression foam on Facebook Marketplace and used Unistrut for the metal frame that forms the skeleton’s basic structure. He carefully cut foam pieces for the legs, pelvis, ribs, arms, and head. The shoulders are movable, and the arms can rotate using a monitor stand. He cut all the pieces into smaller parts that could be glued together later, which helped him get more accurate shapes and reduce foam waste.

He cut almost every piece with a hot knife or wire and glued them together using Great Stuff Pro spray foam. The entire sculpture is coated with a rubber roof coating for durability and protection from the elements. To achieve a smooth, plastic-like finish, he applied Styroplast, followed by a final protective coat of Macropoxy. He also plans to add glow-in-the-dark paint to make it even more striking.

Alan spent about $1,700 on the project, but materials were purchased on discount. He said that the budget could rise to $2,500 if you buy new items. He did not count the labor cost, but it really has a huge value in terms of creativity and skills. The classic theme is well executed, and the detailed craftsmanship of the mega skeleton figure is truly impressive.

This is not Alan’s first large-scale Halloween display, he has previously gained plenty of attention for building a giant skeleton bursting through his house. Most importantly, he creates such displays as part of his “Skeletons for St. Jude” charity drive, supporting children’s cancer research.
