The project is playful yet functional, blending furniture with inflatable toys. The product is named chAIR, highlighting the key feature of inflatables.
The piece is a part of an ongoing collaboration series by balcony, reconsidering the traditional aesthetics of domestic furniture. The chAIR’s design integrates inflatable, commercial-grade PVC with a finely brushed, stainless steel frame that creates a balance between softness and stability.
The idea of the chair is inspired by the durability and recyclability of the inflatable toys; the piece flaunts a cushion-like body that is supported by sleek metal legs.
Reimagined as a crossover between furniture and toys, the piece challenges conventional ideas of materiality, offering a tactile structure. Another highlighting feature of the chair is that it has an oversized zipper that runs along its base, allowing you to change the upholstery. This enhances the chair’s character while the frame adds elegance and permanence to the piece.
