Camping tents with inflatable frames are getting popular, and the FLFQ-Aloner’s FLOAT tent and Heimplanet’s MAVERICKS expedition tent are some recent examples. Joining the bandwagon is the Japanese outdoor gear brand Snow Peak, which introduced airframe technology into its first-ever rooftop tent. While the brand is traditionally known for using aluminum poles in its ground tents, the new Field Rise rooftop tent utilizes inflatable frame technology to reduce its weight and simplify setup.

The rooftop tent features an airframe structure, which means you need to inflate it without needing to assemble or disassemble the frame. This way, you require less time to set it up or pack down, so you have more time to spend enjoying other activities and relaxing in nature. Furthermore, the inflatable airframe design is said to reduce the overall weight; additional details are yet to be revealed. The company also claims that its compact design makes it compatible with a wide range of vehicles.

The rooftop tent utilizes specialized fastening hardware that attaches without interfering with the vehicle body. As you pull out and lower the extendable ladder, the tent structure is revealed. Thereafter, you inject air into the tent to make it stand up. It also comes with a PVC-coated soft-shell storage cover for weather protection when packed.

The tent has a wide-opening front entrance and mesh windows on three sides for ventilation. Inside, it is just like any other rooftop tent with sufficient room for one or two people to sleep. There is even a nook at the entrance that enhances movement flow in the tent. This dedicated space allows you to put on and take off the shoes to maintain cleanliness inside.

You can even expand the living space using the included tarp to create a covered space at the entrance, ensuring you don’t get wet in rainy weather. It can also be used as a separate, partially covered space from the tent to cook food or have some time outdoors.

With double-wall construction, the Field Rise rooftop tent is suitable for both hot summers and cold winters as it reduces condensation caused by temperature differences to create a comfortable living space. The tent is also touted to sustain wind and rain, but the exact metrics are yet to be unveiled.

Snow Peak has revealed no details about the availability of the Field Rise rooftop tent, but it has been listed for ¥396,000 ($2,541).
