Las Vegas is now hosting a lot of robotic and smart toys that we should be able to purchase during the year. Adding to the list is the very special and cute bibo. A device by Hangzhou Leim Technology, bibo is a new kind of interactive device, it calls an “AI Art Toy Lifeform.”

More than regular smart toys or voice assistants, bibo is small – almost the size of a soda can – with vivid eyes and an AI-powered camera on the head. Standing about 150 mm tall and weighing under 300 grams, bibo also comes packed with multiple microphones and an array of pressure-sensitive touch sensors.

With all the tech built in, bibo suddenly grows out of its baby image into a smart device that can perceive its surroundings and respond in ways that feel natural, like it was some living companion interacting and not a toy. So instead of the usual companion bots and assistants that respond to commands, following a wake up word or phrase, bibo can initiate interactions on its own.

According to the press release, bibo is like any natural pet, designed to seek your attention. It can react to touch or sound, and when you have comforted it, and it has sensed the user’s change in mood, bibo reacts back with physical and audio cues, including blinking, nodding, or making expressive sounds.

To execute this, bibo relies on a lot of on-device processing and cloud-based AI. By handling most of it locally, bibo responds to touch and nearby interactions in under 50 milliseconds. Liam Tech claims that this compares to the reaction times of living beings. Using Amazon Cloud architecture, the device can interpret body language and visual inputs in the surroundings to help kids have a good time learning, interacting, and playing with it.

bibo, Leim Tech notes, doesn’t rest on what it has learnt in the factory. It can continuously learn from its users’ behavior and adjust its personality in the same way over time. The smart bibo is going to be on show at CES, where you can interact with it. For those who haven’t made it to Vegas, the global launch for the device is scheduled before March 2026.
