Sleeping mats are a major staple of Aussie company Sea to Summit, with most options emphasizing lightweight construction, high comfort, and packability. Kickstarting the year, the brand has expanded its offerings with the new Ultralight XR Insulated Sleeping Mat, which stays true to its name and brand ethos. Designed for backpacking, bikepacking, and thru-hiking, it features a lightweight design with a small packed size for easy transportation.
As pointed out by T3, the Ultralight XR is 14 percent lighter than the previous Ultralight model, 30 percent thicker, and packs into a 53 percent smaller size. When packed, the small mat package measures about 7.5 x 3.9 x 3.9 inches. Measuring 2.6 inches (6.5cm) thick, it is made from hybrid 30/40D nylon and Ultrafresh-treated TPU laminate to ensure durability.
You can adjust the inflation level to set the firmness according to personalized comfort. Much like other mats from the brand, it offers great stability and comfort with 151 Air Sprung Cells that contour to your body, reducing pressure points.

According to the maker, the sleeping mat has a wider profile to suit side sleepers and allows for more movement. It comes with ThermalCore insulation that reflects body heat for boosting R-value. The mat can be inflated quickly through the included Airstream pump sack and XPRESS valve. Other highlights include pillow locks that help you secure your pillow in place.
The Ultralight XR Insulated Air Sleeping Mat is available in three sizes, with the smallest model weighing about 15.03oz in the packed state. The small version fits people up to 5 feet 6 inches tall, while the largest model, weighing 20.2oz, can accommodate people up to 6 feet 6 inches tall. If you wish to buy, the pricing starts from $139 for the small version.
