TCL seems to be following a similar strategy in the TV industry as LG and Samsung, which recently introduced the new marketing term “Micro RGB” for their latest TVs. TCL offered an early glimpse of its approach with the X11L unveiled at CES 2026, competing directly with both brands.

These TVs use SQD-Mini LED (Super QLED) technology, which TCL claims deliver better performance than traditional Mini LED and RGB Mini LED TVs. Expanding this lineup, TCL has announced the C8L and C7L 4K UHD models in Europe, which are named QM8L and QM7L in North America, respectively, according to FlatpanelsHD.

These TVs use CSOT WHVA 2.0 panel featuring a single white-light source with improved Quantum Dots to achieve 100 percent BT.2020 color coverage. These TVs feature 4,032-level local dimming zones in the 98-inch C8L model to deliver superior contrast. As another key determinant of Mini LED picture quality, the 98-inch and 85-inch C8L models reach HDR 6000 nits brightness. TCL has also integrated a new Ultra Color Filter panel to further sharpen the picture quality.

The C8L model packs all the advanced display features in a slimmer profile. The TV also significantly reduces the Mini LED halo issue by working with the super condensed micro lens and ultra-high zoning. For motion, it features a refresh rate of 144Hz for smoother visuals with less blur, especially in fast scenes like sports or gaming. When connected to a 288Hz HDMI source, the refresh rate can be boosted to 288Hz.

Powered by the TSR AiPQ Processor and TCL AI, the C8L model optimizes picture pixel-by-pixel in real time. There are also special AI modes: AI Cinema enhances movies, AI Gaming smoothens gameplay, and AI Office/Casting enables smarter screen sharing and productivity. It is equipped with Bang & Olufsen sound and will also support Dolby Vision 2.0 via a future OTA update. This specific model is available in five sizes, ranging from 98 inches to 55 inches.

In contrast, the TCL C7L features a lower HVA 2.0 Pro panel but manages to achieve a full 100 percent BT.2020 color gamut. It offers 800 precise local dimming zones and reaches peak HDR brightness of 2,700 nits. The model is available in similar screen sizes.

There is no word on the availability of both the C8L and C7L SQD-Mini LED TV models, but you can find them listed on the TCL global website to learn about their features. The QM8L and QM7L models are not listed on the TCL US website at the time of writing, but you can expect them to arrive later this year.
