Salone del Mobile has returned with the theme Matter of Salone, and Portuguese lighting brand Castro finds the theme’s truest expression in brass. With its lighting exhibition titled The Art of Brass, the brand reflects its essence through a material that has long defined its history, craftsmanship, and design identity. The edition highlights Ray, Magma, and Flow lighting series, which together explore brass not only as a material but as origin, memory, and creative potential.

At this year’s Salone del Mobile, Castro’s lighting presence becomes part of a wider dialogue on design excellence, where quality, creativity, and craftsmanship remain at the forefront. Presented through a curated selection, the brand’s presence in Milan offers a glimpse into a world of elevated design. Under the theme Art of Brass, Castro lighting highlights brass as a source of richness, light, and decorative depth, a material long associated with permanence, beauty, and character.

Among the lighting series, the Ray suspension light feels like pure magic. The luxury lighting fixture is designed to be a sophisticated, architectural statement piece. Featuring a linear and sculptural design, the pendant combines modern elegance with architectural precision. It is constructed from a layered composition of polished brass and translucent glass, creating a rhythmic play of light and shadow.

Next in line is the Magma that reveals the brand’s evolving creative direction, just like the other pieces. Inspired by the fluid power of molten earth, the series is characterized by brass to mimic liquid metal in motion, balanced with sleek glass elements. Featuring a richly textured surface, the lights create shifting highlights and soft ambient glows. It is designed to capture the moment liquid metal meets light, creating a dramatic balance of primal energy and warm elegance.

The third is called Flow, which “captures the essence of fluidity with its intricate curves and waves that seem to dance in the air,” says the brand.  Featuring mesmerizing lines and graceful forms, each piece is crafted from premium gold-plated brass, showcased in long tubular, sleek curves. These luminaires provide versatile illumination, ranging from a soft, warm ambient glow for quiet evenings to a brilliant radiance for lively evenings.

The designs merge expressive possibilities and the architectural language of brass. The visual aesthetics are based on the interplay of light with texture, scale, and volume. The different pieces shape the room’s atmosphere differently. Moreover, the pieces are inspired by Portuguese craftsmanship, which brings depth and authenticity.

Created to bring both emotion and visual impact, the luminaires feature an enduring character while still being contemporary in their expression. Sitting with this year’s theme, the Art of Brass actually reflects on design through matter.
