If you live with a pet, flea prevention should be of utmost priority, especially where your furry friends dwell. To that accord, Elanco, a global company committed to animal health, has introduced the Pet Collection of anti-flea and anti-parasitic furniture pieces, designed by Parasite 2.0, an architectural and design studio based in Milan.
Pet parents constantly struggle with the predicament of bringing a pet home, knowing full well their furniture will soon be covered in fur, scratches, and worse, fleas. Many pet parents hardly think about the space they share with their furry friends, or don’t get talked through the pet-safe furniture and how to keep the existing furniture healthy and safe with pets around.
According to L’Unione Sarda, 5 percent of the fleas are on the animal, and the remaining 95 percent are already in the environment surrounding it. The collection comically raises awareness about flea problems, letting pet parents know that fleas not only infest pets but also homes, posing harm to both.
Through playful design, Elanco brings the idea of fleas infesting furniture forward by creating furniture inspired by animal characteristics, making the idea more tangible, concrete, and a little satirical. The collection consists of four limited-edition furniture pieces, including Dalmatax, a sofa; Basset, a chaise lounge; Yorkchair, a compact seat; and Gattond, a coffee table. Each piece in the collection is a quirky representation of domestic animals that rule our homes and our hearts, but what rules them is stomach-churning, i.e., fleas.
The Dalmatax in the collection is a sofa in a Dalmatian coat, with a plush, black-spotted design against white upholstery and a rounded backrest. The armrests become ears, giving the appearance of a curled-up Dalmatian. The paws complete the Dalmatax sofa. Next in line is the Basset, a chaise lounge covered in soft, wavy, and brown-striped faux fur, representing a Dachshund.
The Yorkchair, on the other hand, is a chunky chair covered in a flattering golden faux fur. The chair adds a noticeable detail with a metal bow, reminiscent of a Yorkshire Terrier wearing a collar. Last but not least is the Gattond coffee table. It’s a feline-inspired coffee table with a metal top and a fuzzy base with a tail, reminiscent of the classic ginger cat.
“The Pet Collection is an important step in our journey to spread the culture of prevention,” Alessandra Martegani, Head of Marketing for Elanco Italy, said in a talk with Engage. This Pet Collection by Elanco was exhibited at BASE Milano under the banner of 2026 Fuorisalone.
The collection is impressive, interactive, and thought-provoking, making lounging fun and unforgettable. Though comfortable, the idea behind its creation is impossible to ignore and feels like a punch to the gut, making you rethink the space and ecosystem that you and your pet cohabit.
