Fitness equipment brand Garmin, through its acquired subsidiary JL Audio is entering the luxury home hi-fi market. The debut comes in the form of JL Audio Primacy system, which the company says delivers “extraordinary sound performance” precisely tuned to each listener’s space. It directly relates to automatic room calibration technology, which has been at the forefront of the audio industry nowadays.

Garmin has used P.A.R.O. (Primacy Automatic Room Optimization) inside the JL Audio Primacy system to adjust the sound based on your room and listening position. When paired with the provided Centerpiece unit, the system utilizes this technology to precisely tune the audio. It measures and optimizes the entire system – as well as any additional powered subwoofers – and automatically optimizes crossovers, levels, equalization and delay for each driver section to ensure the best possible sound in any room.

The audio system comprises either full-size T6 three-way tower loudspeakers or compact S3 two-way stand-mount loudspeakers. At the main control is the CS centerpiece that works as a networked streamer, preamplifier, and room optimization processor to deliver a new level of sonic audio experience.

The Primacy speakers use an active design, with each driver, including tweeter, midrange, and woofer, powered by its own dedicated amplifier for precise control, enabled by JL Audio’s advanced switching technology. They also feature DSP filtering operating at 32-bit/192 kHz, allowing fine control over crossover filters, equalization, dynamics, delay, and phase to optimize sound quality. In addition, the speakers support Dante Digital Network, enabling high-quality audio to be transmitted and received digitally over a network instead of traditional speaker wiring.

As for the Primacy Centerpiece, this stereo system controller includes a source connection component, tabletop remote and options to stream audio via a connected device. It connects to loudspeakers via Dante networking for preserving a high-resolution digital signal flow, and includes a wireless, Wi-Fi-connected tabletop remote controller with a weighted volume knob and touch buttons.

Audio can be streamed from online sources like Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, plus Roon Ready, Apple Airplay and Google Cast. The Primacy audio system also works with a mobile app that allows audio and room optimization and creates listening profiles.

The T6 speaker includes a 1-inch tweeter, a 5.5-inch midrange driver, and four 5.5-inch woofers. It delivers 1000W total RMS power with a frequency response of 45 Hz to 20 kHz. On the other hand, the S3 speaker features a 1-inch tweeter and a 5.5-inch woofer to deliver 400W max output with a 55 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response.

As noted by What Hi-Fi, the pricing for the T6 active loudspeaker is $90,000 per pair, the S3 costs $35,000 per pair, and the CS Centrepiece is listed for around $15,000. Hi-fi audio gear is usually expensive, and this is one is no different. Garmin is taking a big jump, and it will be interesting to see how it competes with other hi-fi brands in real-life testing by picky reviewers who leave nothing to chance.
