This year’s NYCxDesign Festival features a lighting exhibition, called Shine, brimming with stunning designs. One such is the Wrap lamp by Benjamin Gillespie/Ovuud, which depicts the gravitational warpage across time. It blends contemporary atmospheric illumination with a fluid shape doubling as functional interior décor.
The lamp silhouette is crafted by meticulously building a flowy, wavy wooden grid. Custom-designed 3D printed light housings feature multidirectional LEDs perfectly nestled in the voids of the grid framework. Tight, precision engineering between the grid interfaces creates a continuously flowing face, giving the visual illusion of a wrapped fabric.
The form pulls its primary inspiration from the scientific curves seen when gravity distorts space-time. The layout projects light in multiple directions simultaneously while maintaining a very organic, fluid structure. When viewed from different angles, the grid appears to twist and shift, functioning as an art piece.
The color scheme uses a tight intersecting framework that produces a warm pinkish glow resembling a classic plaid/tartan pattern. It has a maroon finish on the oak grid. This new pink color scheme is specifically curated for the 2026 NYCxDesign Festival. The lamp stands tall at 71 inches high, 17 inches deep, and 24 inches wide.

The even distribution of the light housing creates a soft and soothing glow. The lamp adds a sculptural presence to the environment where the entire silhouette participates in the process. Casting a complex, non-linear glow, each piece is handcrafted to order, allowing for bespoke framework scaling, alternate premium wood selection, and custom diffuser coloration.
