The London-based architectural firm RSHP designed the Anti-Gravity Lounger for the 2026 Barkitecture. Based on the theme Dogs in Space, the lounger is designed by Lorenz Frenzen, Production & Operations Manager, exploring suspension as a state of calm. The firm considered the dog’s comfort and created this lightweight resting system for ease of use and everyday practicality.
This space-themed system is inspired by various deployable structures used in space, including the James Webb Telescope. It allows you to pack the lounger down into a compact form for effortless transportation and unfold it into an elevated, relaxing space to keep your furry friend off the cold, damp, and uneven ground while reducing pressure on joints.
To balance the structure, makers use carbon fiber poles to achieve a precise equilibrium between strength and weight, making the lounger robust and easy to carry. To connect the poles, bespoke 3D printed pieces are used to create a joint, lending the structure durability and lightness, while encouraging seamless assembly. The setup becomes easier and more secure with carabiners.
Since the Anti-Gravity Lounger supports the dog’s relaxation, the structure is equipped with a gently insulated sailcloth canvas for the pooch to laze. It offers a plush and safe resting space and a sense of well-being. The canvas is washable, facilitating easy cleaning and maintenance.

According to a British architectural firm, “The geometry of the structure imitates an orbital arc, a balanced tautness between gravity and lift. The suspended form, on the other hand, mirrors the stillness of a body in motion, placing the dog at the center of its own microgravity.”
Weighing around 2.5 kilograms, the structure is defined by reusability, material efficiency, and carefully selected durable, replaceable components. The Anti-Gravity Lounger is a modest, practical solution that is effortless to transport, care for, and versatile in a wide range of environments.
