Showcased during HAY’s exhibition at 3daysofdesign, the Mimi Sofa by Philippe Malouin is designed to adapt over time. What makes it stand out is the plush form highlighted by a low and compact backrest. The silhouette draws inspiration from pet beds, featuring gently raised edges that wrap around a soft central cushion, creating a cozy seating experience. The replaceable cover adds to the design’s practicality, allowing you to redecorate at will and to maintain its appearance for years.

The seat is framed by gently raised edges that wrap around the user, creating a sense of enclosure. The low, compact backrest is an intentional design element that follows the core “dog bed” concept. The low overall height gives the sofa a horizontal orientation, which adds a grounded, contemporary presence, especially in open-plan spaces or smaller apartments.

The low-slung frame paired with small cushions and pillows allows multi-angle lounging. The back and arms are short, so you do not have to sit only in a forward position. It allows you to easily swing your legs over the sides, sit sideways, or sprawl out completely. The legs of the HAY Mimi Sofa are hidden entirely, unlike in traditional designs.

The Mimi Sofa features unique upholstery that falls over the frame like a softly draped blanket. The upholstery is tightly tailored and precise at the top edges of the armrests and backrest, while it fits loosely at the bottom. This helps when you need to remove the upholstery. The distinctive stitched seam detailing on the skirt at the base of the sofa is also a defining design detail that helps it achieve its quietly tailored character.

The replaceable cover is a key feature allowing Mimi to adapt over time. It gives the design structural ingenuity and also determines its overall look, which can be changed when needed. The fabric is easily removable for washing and swapping. It gives the sofa a new look every time, making the Mimi Sofa a timeless element in your home.

The Mimi Sofa line will be available for purchase worldwide starting from August 2026.
