For its 60th anniversary year, renowned British audio brand Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) has expanded its acclaimed 800 Series of high-end loudspeakers with new Diamond models. Representing the fifth generation of the 800 Series, these speakers retain the renowned Diamond Dome tweeter and several acoustic innovations derived from the Signature line. The result is a significant advancement in sound quality, pushing the 800 Series to new levels of acoustic performance.
The new 800 Series Diamond range features seven models, including the two-way 805 D5 stand-mount speaker, and a series of three-way floorstanding models, namely 804 D5, 803 D5, 802 D5, and 801 D5. The lineup also includes HTM81 D5 and HTM82 D5 center channel speakers to complete the range.
The acoustic upgrades in the new Diamond range focus mainly on lowering cabinet distortion. The speaker now includes an all-new internal aluminum space-frame system combined with plywood matrix bracing that eliminates cabinet resonances, which the brand calls the most mechanically “quiet” enclosure they have ever created. Each unit also features acoustically transparent tweeter grille meshes and lower-distortion driver motor systems taken from the Signature series.
The crossover network is mounted on an all-aluminum plate, linked firmly to the rear frame using substantial M4/M8 hardware. This layout enhances the stiffness of the cabinet while acting as a natural heat sink. Furthermore, all the floorstanding models in the new D5 range include revised aluminum plinths that soak up micro-vibrations using a combination of constrained-layer and tuned-mass damping.
The B&W 800 Series Diamond speakers not only prioritize sound performance but also deliver a highly premium aesthetic. The top surface of the cabinets has been flattened slightly for a cleaner profile. The aluminum top plate also includes a deeper, precision-machined recess so the premium Connolly leather sits flush for a sleek look.
Likewise, metal components such as drive-unit pods, tweeter housings, trim rings, grilles, and structural elements are redesigned to ensure a modern look. There are also new premium finishes such as Dark Walnut, Stealth Black, Warm White, and Light Walnut, perfect for adding architectural appeal to the space.
Officially revealed at HIGH END Vienna, the B&W 800 Series Diamond speakers will be available to buy from 9th September. Pricing starts from $15,000 for the 805 D5 model, while the floor-standing models range between $25,000 and $65,000 for the 801 D5 model. The HTM81 D5 and HTM82 D5 center channel speakers start at $12,000 and go up to $15,000.
