Scandinavian furniture brand Normann Copenhagen has brought back the famous Limit Lounge Chair, originally designed by Niels Bendtsen in 1974. The reissue retains the key characteristics of the original design, including materials and simple appearance, to ensure originality but in a modern context. The company believes the chair’s timeless design remains relevant today, so there are no changes in structural logic at all.
Its name, Limit, reflects the circumstances under which the chair was designed, when materials were limited, and designers focused on creating efficient structures. The design focuses on flat-pack construction to support easy transportation as required at the time, which is still logical today. Its innovative approach earned it a place in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
The Limit Lounge Chair has no excess elements. It simply comprises two steel rods available in a powder-coated finish that act as a frame, over which a padded cover is draped to create the final structural form. The supportive seat in upholstered fabric eliminates the need for foams and other additional components. It can be easily replaced, which allows you to keep it working for years to come.
The cover includes an inner layer made from a net-like weave of PVC-coated PET, providing UV stability and making it suitable for outdoor environments. The outer layer consists of wadding and upholstery, fitted securely onto the steel frame using a zipper. As a latest addition, the chair includes optimal snap connectors that allow multiple chairs to be joined together, creating two- or three-seater compositions or larger modular configurations.
The sculptural form of the Limit Lounge Chair reflects visual lightness and structural integrity, showcasing a beautiful blend of engineering, comfort, and material efficiency. “Good design is first and foremost logical and functional,” says Niels. “The aesthetics arise from this.”

With this reissue, Normann Copenhagen aims to bring an iconic design to the limelight for contemporary audiences.
