With rising rents, apartments are getting smaller and modular furniture is emerging as a boon for modern city dwellers. For people looking for practical transforming furniture solutions, Vancouver-based product design company Coconut Furniture has designed the Coco Slim dining table. The Coco Slim is a fresh take on modular, expandable furniture that transforms from a console to a dining table seamlessly, within a minute. If square footage is in question, this expandable table is the answer!
At first glance, Coco Slim appears to be a sleek console table measuring just 12 inches in depth. However, the true value lies in its hidden stainless steel extension system. The ultra-slim console smoothly glides outward, allowing you to insert hidden tabletop panels to build a full-sized dining setup. It opens to turn into a 68-inch dining table, letting six to eight people enjoy meals together.
Made from FSC-certified solid hardwood structural components and a high-density engineered wood core, the Coco Slim delivers the strength, durability, and aesthetic qualities of real wood. Its fluted legs and edges add a classic wooden furniture element that sits pretty whether you are using it as a console or a dining table. The expandable table is built around a solid stainless steel extension system. It features smooth-glide rails that allow the table to expand effortlessly, while the durable folding hinges let it trim down to a 12-inch console when not in use.
For easy transformation, its smooth-rolling, discreet wheels make expanding the table effortless. Built-in floor stoppers under the hidden leaf storage system and stool prevent scratches and protect the floors. Meanwhile, the built-in center leg provides unparalleled stability and storage at any table length.
You only have to add wooden panels to expand the table to the desired size. Want a snack table? Add one component. Want a sizeable workdesk for working from home? Two panels would do. For lunch with the family, add three components and enjoy. When you are done using it, remove the wooden tabletop panels, store them in the vertical holder, and turn it back into a console table.
The Coco Slim comes with companion seating to maintain its aesthetic and functionality. The collection includes folding chairs and clever nesting stools, delivering on the much-desired space-saving factor. The chairs match the table’s aesthetic with a solid hardwood frame and vegan leather cushioning. Crafted entirely from solid hardwood, the nesting stools form a side table that tucks away four stools to offer additional seating.
The table provides a modular solution for smaller spaces by creating an ecosystem that adds a sleek, luxurious look to the surroundings. It is scratch-, heat-, and water-resistant, making it a durable furniture item.
Currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter, backers can pledge $2,800 for the complete dining set. Making it more suitable for modern apartments and smaller living spaces, Coco Slim comes in a neutral palette, including classic Natural Oak, deep Walnut, and minimalist Matte White or Charcoal.
