Seeing one of the characters that you watched a lot in childhood takes you straight into that time, and the Soundwave Robot by Robosen brings the same feeling with its convertible design. It is basically a miniaturized G1 robot from the Transformers series that transforms into an 80s tape recorder on your command. What makes it even more special is that it also serves as a Bluetooth speaker.
Officially licensed by Hasbro and Transformers, this fully auto-converting robot toy features an iconic deep blue colorway, paired with gray/silver mechanical parts. The further details are highlighted with yellow, while red is used for furious red eyes. The cinematic-grade paint finish ensures it brings back the exact nostalgic feeling. The size is 36.4cm long and 26.1cm wide, which means it will need significant space when working as a robot. It shrinks into a 24.8cm x 14.9cm cassette player when commanded.
Just like the classic G1 design, Soundwave features a stealth black tape deck cover adorned with the Decepticon logo in the Cassette Mode. It also uses red lit accents highlighted by premium materials like zinc alloy, aluminum, and ABS.
The robot’s actions are powered by articulating hip joints, which create a lifelike robotic experience. There are 28 proprietary high-precision servos and an advanced adaptive gait algorithm with precise joint control that enables actions like walking forward, backwards, and turns. The onboard 84 high-performance chipsets work like its programmed brain that processes each conversion, combat action, and command for smooth execution. It’s the brain that enables full motion control, voice recognition, and balancing systems of the robot.
The robot toy uses the original G1 voice of Frank Welker, who has recorded over 200 lines for this project. All the recordings are further accentuated by Scott Brownlee’s engineering to mimic the exact 1984 sound. When the robot says lines like “Destroy Autobots” and “Soundwave superior, Autobots inferior”, your mind will instantly be transported to the same era.

The Soundwave robot recognizes 48 voice commands, including “Convert”, “Hello” and “Attack” to “Defend” and even Holiday greetings. You can activate it by listening to tech with the phrase, “Hey, Soundwave,” and then speak your command. After completing the action, it returns to a listening pose.
The robot also works with a companion smartphone app that can be used to control your bot remotely. While in Robot Mode, you can freely command it with the joystick and tap the “Attack” and “Fire” buttons to trigger combat actions. In Cassette mode, you can play built-in tracks or create your own recordings. Furthermore, the “Free-Programming” feature lets you create custom actions without any coding experience.
If you wish to buy, you can pre-order the Soundwave transforming toy robot speaker for a discounted price of $999 from the Robosen USA official website right now.
