Closing the lid and cover before flushing is the simplest step that helps maintain bathroom hygiene. We all know and understand this, but still do not always practice the obvious, leaving the bathroom vulnerable to an invisible hygiene risk that is not limited to the toilet seat, but jeopardizes even our toothbrush. Since we tend to forget this important thing most of the time, Adam Wilewski-led Swedish company has created a nifty solution in a stick and use ‘No Brainer’ – a smart sensor-enabled device that automatically closes the lid before you flush.
It happens all the time at my place; someone forgets to close the toilet lid, and my wife and I end up in an argument. The idea behind the toilet lid closer is a no-brainer. It simplifies the obvious step and ensures airborne contamination from the toilet remains contained within, bathroom hygiene is improved, and those unnecessary tensions between couples or roommates are not toilet-related, at least.

It is scientifically proven that flushing without closing the lid spreads aerosols, containing potential bacteria and viruses, in the air. The invisible spray of microscopic droplets— known as toilet plume – is released in the bathroom, which can travel in the air up to a few feet away, contaminating items like toothbrushes, mobile phones and other surfaces in the proximity.
No Brainer is designed to reduce this infection risk and help solve a 100-year-old dilemma: “Lid Up or Down?” The compact device attaches to the cistern under the flush button—no tools required—and transforms any toilet into a smart, hands-free station in seconds. It thus helps reduce the harmful spread of infection through the toilet aerosol. The patented device is developed in close collaboration with some of Sweden’s leading researchers in aerosol transmission. The result is a smart, simple, and effective technology that minimizes the spread of bacteria and viruses through airborne particles – a particularly important factor in confined or public spaces.

“This is not just about improving hygiene – this is a breakthrough that can make a real difference in how we design and use toilet environments globally,” says the inventor behind the No Brainer.
Backed by science and proven technology, the company now aims to bring the innovation to market via a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The device is compatible with all traditional bathroom fixtures. It activates as soon as you move the hand toward the flush button, automatically lowering both the lid and the seat cover before flushing begins. This contactless and convenient solution to a hygienic bathroom also comes with motion motion-activated LED night light, which also autonomously lights up in the dark, illuminating the toilet area as you walk in with the perfect amount of light to guide your way.
“We see great potential for this technology in hotels, healthcare facilities, offices, and smart homes,” says the team behind the invention. “No Brainer proves that simple innovation can make a big impact—both hygienically and commercially.”
This hands-free toilet lid closer is effortless to use and install. The plasticky device is provided with a waterproof double-sided adhesive strip; just peel and press the device near the flushing button, and just instantly give smart, clean functionality to any standard toilet. The device runs on an energy-efficient microcontroller powered by 4 x AA batteries that delivers up to 10 months of use before requiring a battery replacement. This math, according to the company, is based on one lid closure every 3 minutes for 12 hours a day. When power runs low, a red light blinks on the device to indicate it’s time for battery replacement.
If you’re excited about this first-of-its-kind automatic lid closure with motion-activated LED nightlight, special launch offers are up for grabs through Kickstarter. You can preorder 2 No Brainers for $55 or 4 for $99 at Early Bird discount and upgrade the hygiene of your bathroom beginning November this year, when the device is estimated to start shipping.
