Not long ago, British hi-fi brand Avid marked its 30th anniversary with a high-end turntable release. Hot on the heels of the record player launch, Avid has now announced the arrival of a new high-end pair of floorstanding loudspeakers. Dubbed EVO Two, these floorstanders are an advancement over the EVO THREE and EVO Four (predecessors), designed to deliver enhanced bass response, a wider dynamic range, and a more expansive soundstage.
Compared to earlier EVO models, the EVO Two features an enhanced cabinet design and a reconfigured driver setup, which Avid claims delivers superior low-frequency performance and soundstage depth. The biggest highlight of the EVO TWO is a 3.5-way floorstanding design.
For those unfamiliar, a 3.5-way speaker system is a bit of a novelty in the audio world. It’s not quite a full four-way system (with separate drivers for bass, midrange, treble, and sub-bass), but it’s more sophisticated than a standard three-way setup. Essentially, it utilizes an additional low-frequency driver to enhance the bass without fully dedicating a driver to sub-bass frequencies, thereby offering a balance of power and precision. This design enables the EVO Two to provide a wider dynamic range and deeper bass than its smaller siblings.
On the technical front, the EVO Two features a 28mm (1.1-inch) hand-coated soft dome tweeter, two 160mm (6.3-inch) mid-range drivers, and a hefty 250mm (9.84-inch) low-frequency driver, achieving a low-end frequency of 28Hz. That’s deep enough to make your floorboards rumble during a Hans Zimmer soundtrack.
I’ve always been drawn to speakers that are as visually stunning as they are sonically impressive, and the EVO TWO’s sleek, glossy design and sharp lines make it a true showpiece. Beyond its aesthetics and audio performance, the EVO TWO’s construction stands out. Its drivers are encased in a solid aluminum framework, reducing vibrations to deliver pristine sound.

It all seems hunky dory until you hear the price. Available in stylish black or gloss white finishes, a pair is priced at $38,995. To be frank, it’s not just an audio equipment purchase, it’s a hefty investment that only a few can afford. To put it in perspective, that amount could buy a well-outfitted tiny home or a camper trailer in the U.S. If still keen on investing, contact an AVID authorized dealer or wait for more details to pop up on the brand’s website.
