Barkitecture 2025 has concluded. The event featured 11 dog kennel designs, which were judged on parameters of canine wellbeing, durability, architectural ambition, and the dog’s delight. While we’ve covered several of these designs, including this year’s People’s Choice Award winner, a few remained unavailable for press coverage until now.

Among them, the Burrow dog kennel, crafted by the UK-based Randell Design Group, stole the spotlight. Reportedly, it was the top-selling kennel at Bonhams; the final bidding details are currently unavailable on the auction site, and further updates are pending.

Aligning with this year’s Barkitecture theme, “From Nature; For Nature”, the Burrow dog kennel redefines canine comfort by tapping into dogs’ instincts. “Just as foxes or wolves burrow in the wild, our creation allows the pups to spiral into their cozy den,” states the maker.

The biggest highlight of the dog kennel design is its ability to split into two ‘open nests.’ This makes it ideal for households with multiple dogs or varied sleeping preferences.

Randell Design Group further states, “We studied a variety of architectural forms that occur within nature and are created by the wildlife inhabiting them. We looked at the way dogs pace in a spiral to curl up or how foxes dig deep into the earth and noticed how each mammal finds a space to sleep and feel secure that echoes life in the womb. We translated our concept into a 3D model, carving and scraping away sections of the interior in a burrowing-like fashion.”

The result was a structure that offered safety, security, and comfort to the canine. As far as material composition is concerned, the dog kennel is made of 100 percent recycled wool flooring underlay, acoustic felt, timber, brass, and leather. The kennel features a non-toxic, natural fiber upholstery that ensures a comfortable, eco-friendly retreat.
