After flying beyond the limits of the sky, birds are now venturing underwater. The prime example is the pet parrot, Bebe. He recently broke the internet after his owner took him swimming underwater in the Bahamas in a homemade submarine. Ever since videos of Bebe exploring the open water – looking utterly confused, excited, and curious at the same time – have surfaced online, people have been polarized into two groups, expressing their amazement and concerns.
Bebe’s owner, Steven Lawyer, crafted the submarine from a food container, allowing the parrot to explore the waters in a manner that is unlikely for a bird. Concerned about the safety, Steven tested the submarine with his pet parrot in a bathtub before taking to open waters. He knew the exact size of Bebe, and considering that, a parrot-sized submarine was built.
Steven further equipped the submarine with two air fittings and a one-way valve. To ensure a constant supply of oxygen, air is provided by a 3000 psi paintball cylinder, outfitted to the bottom of the submarine, with two lead weights for optimum toughness. Steven also installed an O2 meter in the submarine, guaranteeing Bebe’s safety and ideal oxygen levels while underwater.“I wanted to be sure our beloved Bebe had plenty of fresh air,” Steven explained to Dexerto. “The coral where we snorkeled is in a sheltered harbor that we know well with no rip currents,” he said. “So we knew there was no risk of him getting whisked away.”
According to AOL, this is not the first time Bebe has partaken in an unusual activity. He has been living an extraordinary life with his owner for a very long time, participating in a week-long bicycle ride, skydiving, doing free-fall, and whatnot.

With all the videos of Bebe the parrot diving in a submarine, people thought it was an AI creation. So, Steven had to make a video, revealing that it is not AI and entirely handmade by him. Anyway, people had a lot to talk about it. They found it impressive and called Bebe a fine gentleman.
Some people outrightly bashed the idea and called it animal cruelty. They questioned the act of putting a bird underwater in a submarine for views, stressing the life out of it. This sure was unnecessary, as Bebe is safe and that is all that matters. Amidst all the mixed reactions, what do you think of this? Do you find it a reckless stunt or just a happy bird enjoying some snorkeling? Anyway, a parrot has just explored the Bahamas, what are you doing with your life?
