Renowned American treehouse builder Pete Nelson has unveiled his latest creation in Texas Hill Country, and it is his biggest treehouse build yet. Nestled within a lush grove of cypress trees, with a gentle creek flowing underneath, the Cypress Mansion measures an impressive 2,400 square feet interior with a 1,600 square feet deck space. The treehouse’s special feature is its smart design that makes the most of the natural beauty around it.
The treehouse features five decks to provide the owners with ample outdoor spaces to relax and immerse themselves in the surrounding nature. The interior space offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The local wildlife makes the place even more exciting as lemurs can be seen lounging in the trees, while antelopes and giraffes saunter by.
The clients wanted a luxurious, full-time residence among the trees, and Nelson Treehouse’s team has provided creatively. The entire structure is built about 17 feet off the ground, supported by nine cypress trees and 14 posts, along with heavy-duty hardware like custom bolts, uplift arrestors, backup cables, and support posts.
Owing to its large size, this single-story treehouse is more like a mansion in the trees. The outside is covered in salvaged western red cedar to match the natural setting, while the inside features reclaimed fir ceilings and Hem Fir walls to highlight the focus on eco-friendly design.
The treehouse is accessed via a ramp from the cliff’s edge or a staircase and walkway from the valley below. Upon entry, guests are greeted by a unique glass floor panel that offers a view of the creek running under the treehouse.

The living area illuminated by large Marvin windows features a cozy fireplace and a dining table. This area also leads to a screened porch to spend evenings outdoors. The adjacent kitchen is equipped with stainless steel appliances, warm wood cabinetry, and a central island. Cathedral-style windows bring plenty of natural light into the space.
The primary bedroom features large windows to offer a 170-degree view of the surrounding cypress trees. From here, the owners can also access a private deck with an outdoor sauna, and a luxurious bathroom featuring a steam shower, double vanity sinks, and even access the second deck with a hot tub. There is also a guest bedroom and an adjoining bathroom with a clawfoot tub. The Cypress Mansion treehouse even includes a utility room equipped with a washer, dryer, and sink.
