Birdhouse Modular is a prefab home, offering limitless layout possibilities, eco-conscious accommodation, and an escape from day-to-day life. It is designed to evolve and adapt to the changing landscape and lifestyle, thanks to its prefabricated design. This modular dwelling allows users to customize their spaces according to their needs. From a cozy and compact retreat to a family-friendly lodge, it becomes what you need it to be. This compact house mimics the silhouette of a birdhouse, with a large porthole window framing the world, offering sweeping, enchanting views of the outdoors.
Crafted by Sussex-based firm Tree Tents in collaboration with an eco-tourism firm, WildComfort, it incorporates responsibly sourced cedar, marine plywood, aluminum, and glass. Engineered for durability, low impact, and rapid installation, the Birdhouse Modular features a lightweight and flat-pack design, which can be installed on raised stilted platforms, ensuring minimal ground impact. These modules are either delivered as a fully built unit by Hi-Ab or shipped in a compact crate for self-build installation.
Inside, the Birdhouse Modular comes with a compact kitchen, which can be tailored according to the user’s needs. The kitchen is outfitted with a sink and countertop, a 12V water pump for water tank connection, shelves, and cabinets. For appliances, there is a single-pan electric refrigerator, cooler, or cool box that can also be added.
There is also a tiny bedroom with multipurpose configurations and layouts. It consists of a king-size bed and a tiny porthole window to experience immersive views. You can choose from a fixed standard double or single bed, or a mezzanine bed to maximize the space. If you need more flexibility and an additional sleeping space, there can be added seating and dining areas, transforming into a double bed.
It has a full bathroom with a toilet, a shower, and a sink. Flexible toilet and shower options are also available to suit on and off-grid set-ups. You can choose from traditional and incinerating toilets to waterless separating toilets, depending on the site’s needs. There is an optional LPG water heating system for comfort in a remote location. Other facilities include heating, LED lighting, and charging for on and off-grid power options.
The idea is to buy not an entire house, but to choose your desired module you need to create a home. According to the firm, each module comes in a myriad of sizes, layouts, and finishes, allowing infinite combinations of bedrooms, kitchens, saunas, workspaces, and more. With a bit of ingenuity, these compact spaces can be further extended by adding decks, terraces, open pathways, and canopies for a versatile, sheltered outdoor space.
