I am baffled by people who claim to be camping enthusiasts, but when it comes to buying a tent, they often tend to compromise on quality. Such people cite the fact that they only camp once a year, and barely find any need to invest in something that offers stormworthiness or spaciousness. I can’t speak on others’ behalf, but for me, a tent is like a portable mini-home I carry during trips, so it must support my outdoor adventures while being safe, lightweight, and easy to carry. One such tent doing rounds on Kickstarter is the Buffalo high-pressure backpacking inflatable tent.
Traditional tents, with their long poles and heavy stakes, can be a hassle to set up and pack, especially for backpackers who prioritize lightweight, portable equipment. AIRBRIDGE, the company behind the Buffalo tent, aims to make this process lighter and a whole lot easier. They do it via patented ‘high-pressure air frame technology,’ which allows easy pitching of the tent. This high-pressure system eliminates the need for traditional tent poles that add unnecessary weight.
“Our patented airframe can sustain pressures over 40 psi, allowing the frame diameter to be reduced to as little as 2.5 cm, depending on the tent size. This dramatically reduces overall weight and enables the construction of truly compact and lightweight tents,” the company states.
The Buffalo tent’s patented high-pressure air frame technology also gives the tent a robust structure capable of holding its weight even in adverse weather conditions. “The air frame is remarkably resistant, so you won’t have to worry about the tent getting punctured or collapsing from heavy rain or snow, hail, or other forms of inclement weather,” the company informs.
Instead of relying on guy lines, the tent uses a high-strength polyester jacket to contain the air pressure, ensuring stability to the unit. “If the exterior is forcefully struck by a sharp object, an air leak may occur, but the frame will not suddenly explode, making Buffalo much safer,” makers add.
Another compelling aspect of the Buffalo is its portability. Weighing 4.4lbs (one-person tent), which is a pound more than the Sky View Backpacker, the Buffalo high-pressure tent fits in a backpack with ease. Setup isn’t a hassle either. All one is required to do is simply inflate the tent (via Airbridge air compressor or third-party air compressor), secure it with pegs, and you’re ready to enjoy the campsite. The company claims that it just takes two minutes for the entire setup procedure. However, we cannot testify to the claim unless we have done a first-hand review of the same.
Material-wise, the tent’s body is made from durable Nylon 20D and 40D Ripstop fabric. It boasts a waterproof design that ensures campers stay dry even in heavy rain, making it a reliable choice for unpredictable weather. While the tent’s high-pressure frame provides enough stability for most conditions, AIRBRIDGE advises using guy lines in strong winds or inclement weather for added security.

For outdoor enthusiasts who can’t curtail the excitement of trying new camping gear, the Buffalo camping tent is available to preorder for an early bird price of $219, slightly lower than the Arcadia 4P modular camping tent that is running its crowdfunding campaign alongside Airbridge. Upon delivery, the package would include the tent, rainfly, and storage bag. Air mats, air compressors, tent pegs, and guy lines would come as add-ons.
