Behold the Compression dining table, designed by industrial designer and architect Philippe Starck. Manufactured by Italy-based company Glas Italia, this minimalistic furniture piece an interplay of glass and wood. It explores two juxtaposing elements in a harmonious design that infuses the dining space with a sublet sophistication.

Compression is a rectangular dining table, where the transparent tabletop and tempered transparent glass base are offset by a wooden beam made from single piece of solid oak. The beam pierces through the glass base, becoming a connecting point of the opposite ends and offering stability to the overall structure.

The wood beam is secured in place with polished chromed metal wedges on both sides of the glass. Every element is immaculately brought together with a top-notch interlocking process, giving the table a clean and dignified presence without utilizing much material, and thus eliminating waste.

The table comes in different sizes and material options. The wooden beam is available in two natural finishes of deeply brushed and wax finished or charred through heat treatment. The tiny floor protectors on the bases and top connectors are finished in polished chromed metal.

Complementing the table is a stool made entirely of crystal. To quote Philippe Starck, “Like Fire and Water, the marriage of glass and wood in a technological miracle.” Simple and elegant, the Compression dining table is designed for contemporary spaces.
