We, humans, began to crave nature’s colors, textures, and soothing presence soon after we moved away from the natural world and into the concrete jungles. Thus, giving way to biophilic design in our modern homes. While making plants and indoor trees a part of interior design has grown in popularity, you don’t necessarily need a designer to accomplish the task. Meet the Green Hideaway Chair by Hornbach, which is a DIY living plant chair, meaning you have to DIY it at home and add a plant of your choice to its build.

Inspired by the Swedish chair called ‘pinnstol,’ this DIY living plant chair is a marvelous way to incorporate biophilic design into interiors. It will be your very own forest in the living room. This furniture has an alluring design that will definitely intrigue DIYers and nature lovers. The unique chair is designed by Stockholm-based studio Front/ in partnership with European DIY chain Hornbach and its creative agency HeimatTBWA\.

The Green Hideaway Chair allows you to connect and lounge with nature thanks to the inclusion of a live plant in the open base that climbs up to cover up the backrest. Part of the Hornbach WERKSTÜCK series, the high-end design aims to assist industry-leading designers and artists to partner and create self-build projects such as the Green Hideaway Chair.

This easy-to-build design enables DIYers of all skill levels to create the living plant chair using the illustrated, step-by-step instructions, a template, and a complete list of materials and tools required to complete the project. All you need to do is to create a wooden frame and include your favorite trailing vines to make a little green sanctuary right in your living room.

What’s more interesting is that even though the chair is a DIY project, it has a certain je ne sais quoi of designer furniture. So who’s ready to include a pop of color with a living plant chair in their homes? DIYers, assemble!
