Building a large-scale Halloween decoration from scratch requires some serious skills, a few supplies, and plenty of creativity. If you are looking for a unique project to enjoy with friends and family this festive season, US-based creator Isaac Alexander has designed an impressive animated vampire in a coffin prop for Halloween display that may inspire you. While many buy animated Halloween props, Isaac shows it is possible to make your own. Issac, who is not new to giant displays, created a giant skeleton breaking out of his home’s roof, a few years ago.

This coffin prop is built entirely from materials you can find at any hardware store. Start by constructing the frame using 2×4 wood pieces. The DIYer recommended choosing a lightweight, easy-to-cut wood for convenience. You have to cut the wood pieces at precise angles so they fit together securely. You can cover the frame with 1-inch foam insulation sheets on the sides.

After building the coffin, he lined the interior with red fabric for a cool look when lights are on. Then, you have to create a simple frame from PVC pipes and wood to hold the vampire’s head and mask, and move the head.

Isaac used a reindeer motor, a low-speed motor often found in holiday decorations, that is attached with a mending plate to the PVC frame to animate the vampire head’s movement. Finally, red lights are added to give the vampire an eerie glow, making it look even more frightening.

The coffin lid with a broken slot is attached at the end to reveal the moving vampire head inside. Adding a cross made from insulation board to the front lends a finishing touch. Now your spooky vampire inside a coffin prop is ready to haunt visitors.

While there is no sound, we particularly liked its eerie red glow that makes it look truly scary. Creating one is not so difficult but requires basic woodworking skills and tools.
