What good is a tent if it’s a bane on your back? The question became a founding principle of the Duplex tent, which many industry experts lauded for its lightweight design. The company behind the project, Zpacks, is now introducing the Pro version of the gear, which is being called “as light and durable as its predecessor.” Dubbed Zpacks Duplex Pro, the tent weighs 1.2lbs (almost similar to the weight of Duplex), but significantly lighter than Durston X-Mid 2, which is often referred to as one of the most durable and lightweight tents in the industry.

The fully enclosed two-person tent is ideal for backpackers and adventurers seeking a lightweight and feature-rich shelter. Duplex Pro has retained most of the core features offered by its predecessor, and added zippered storm doors with peak vents, “so you get protection from wind and rain without turning your tent into a sauna,” the company states.

“We’ve taken zippered entries to the next level with our slick new Double L-shape design. This smart setup splits each entry in half, so you can open or close either side independently, no more screen flopping onto the floor or getting in your way. It’s clean, intuitive, and makes getting in and out a total breeze,” the company adds.

The Zpacks Duplex Pro is crafted from Dyneema Composite Fabric (DCF), a waterproof, tear-resistant, and PFAS-free material renowned for its durability and ultralight properties. Available in two configurations, Lite and Standard, the tent offers options for those prioritizing minimal weight or added durability. The Lite version is ideal for ounce-counting thru-hikers, while the Standard version provides extra opacity and robustness for rugged conditions.

The Duplex Pro boasts a symmetrical design, allowing it to be pitched in any direction to adapt to wind, slope, or scenic views. Its compact footprint (90 x 45 inches) fits into tight backcountry spots, a significant advantage over tents with larger, asymmetrical footprints. The tent’s 48-inch peak height and spacious floor accommodate two wide 25-inch sleeping pads side by side, ensuring comfort for couples or solo hikers with gear.

The tent also features vents and a mesh perimeter for superior ventilation, minimizing condensation. Not to mention, four vestibules for storing wet gear, shoes, or backpacks. Other features include LineLoc V adjusters and bright yellow Z-Line guylines for a secure, easy-to-adjust pitch. The Duplex Pro is designed for ease of use, setting up with two 48-inch trekking poles or optional carbon fiber tent poles (sold separately).

If there is anything that is a serious turn-off for any camper, it’s the pricing. Starting at $799, it’s a significant investment when compared with other DCF tents. The tent doesn’t come with stakes either. You are required to purchase six to eight stakes separately. Nevertheless, the tent also comes with an optional $139 groundsheet and $249 Flex Kit for freestanding capability, all available on Zpacks’ website.
