Halloween is here, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be downright frightening. For people who love fun DIYs that toe the line between cute and spooky, here is an exciting and easy DIY yarn pumpkin tutorial from the Navage Patch. All you need is Dollar Store foam pumpkins and thick yarn. The best part is that it only takes up to 5 minutes to make. Colorful yarn adds a bit of spicy hue to these DIY pumpkins that makes them look really unique. Let’s see the entire procedure.
Materials Needed:
- Dollar Store foam pumpkins
- Assorted yarn or thick yarn, or Red Heart Boutique Rigoletto Yarn at Dollar Tree
- Small tree branch/twig
- A potato peeler/apple corer
Instructions for Easy DIY Yarn Pumpkins
- Remove the stems from the faux pumpkins. Then, take a coin and outline the stem area
- Now take the potato peeler, stab on the side of the outline, and start digging to create a hole through the faux pumpkin
- If you are using the Red Heart Rigoletto Yarn, you will require 3-4 feet of yarn. If you are using another thicker yarn, you will need 6-8 feet of yarn. However, the length of the yarn will depend on the size of the pumpkins
- Next, tie a knot on one end of the yarn and put it through the hole you carved in the faux pumpkin, while leaving the other half outside. Pull the knot through the other end of the hole and loop it back around to cover the pumpkin
- Repeat the same process till half of the pumpkin is covered in yarn. Make sure there is no space left. Once you reach the end of the yarn, turn the pumpkin over and repeat the same process
- Look for empty spots and cover them with the leftover yarn. Trim the excess yarn, tie a knot, and tuck it in the hole
- Now take the small piece of twig and stick it in the hole, and push it in. Now your easy DIY yarn pumpkin is ready
