The current trend of the RV industry shows a significant rise in pop-up travel trailer models. Dethleffs’ c.fold caravan and Hyundai’s Staria camper van concept unveiled at the 2026 CMT camper and travel show are some great examples. The all-new Freescape camper van follows the same approach by combining a flexible floor plan with a unique pop-up roof system that expands to the side, allowing the inhabitant to stand inside. This modular camper van is built on the Ford Tourneo Custom chassis, and you can expect it to go into production.
The main highlight of the Freescape camper van is a unique pop-up roof design that uses inflatable tubes to create a spacious living and sleeping area in seconds. As highlighted by New Atlas, the camper van creates a sleeping area to the side of the vehicle, which creates a standing height inside the van, even while you are using the sleeping platform. It literally means you can rest upstairs and get downstairs for cooking or working easily.
The spatial interior concept comes with a kitchen module that can be moved along the vehicle’s axis and even completely outside on the rails. It even serves as a full-fledged table or work surface that makes a great combination with the swiveling table for seating more people together.
The integrated floor rails also allow you to add, rearrange, or remove seats to transform it from a multi-passenger vehicle to a high-capacity cargo hauler easily. You can even use them to secure bikes, camping gear, etc. Both front seats can be swiveled and combined with the bench seat to create a variety of spatial configurations for different needs. There is even a customizable storage system in the rear that helps in keeping things organized. It is basically a system of shelf modules that can be combined, swapped, or removed as needed.

The mobile workspace concealed behind a flap is another clever highlight of the camper van. It transforms into a functional workspace for laptops, tablets, and other devices and comes with integrated power outlets and storage space for electronics. The vehicle also includes a solar panel, a 300-Ah lithium battery, combined with a 3000-watt inverter for self-sufficient travel, while a smart system allows monitoring and controlling lighting and an onboard 25-liter fresh water tank.
The Freescape camper van will be available in three variants: Adventure, Sport, and Street – all featuring the unique side-expanding rooftop tent like the Tonke camper. There is also a “The New Ultimate” camper model, which is developed and sold in partnership with Rhön Camp.
