Thoughtful gifts do not always need to be extravagant and expensive. Remember when you scribbled “World’s Best Mom!” on a piece of paper in your attempt to make a card for her, and she lit up like a Christmas tree? I am going for that feeling here. Handmade Mother’s Day gifts are more precious than any store-bought item for a mom.

Mother’s Day is almost upon us, and it is time to find a gift for that most important woman, the Lifegiver. Every mother deserves nothing but the best, which is why this Mother’s Day, I want to show my mum what she means to me. I am putting some time and effort into making an assorted gift basket with all the things that she likes, and yes, I made each of them by hand.

You can begin with a breakfast in bed with her favorite things nicely plated. But if you are not good in the kitchen, you can take a pick from these handmade Mother’s Day gifts or make them all as I have. These DIY gifts are easy to make, you can follow the detailed procedures written and explained in the video tutorials below. Let’s get started.

Here are the eight handmade Mother’s Day gifts I created and wish that they can inspire you to do the same.

Lavender Jar candle

Lavender is full of soothing aroma and I wanted to use the lovely floral scent of this stunning flower to help the most multitasking human being relax a bit. So I made a candle infused with lavender and citronella essential oils, both of which are known to relax the body and mind and uplift spirits.

This candle was made for well under $15 and with easily available materials. The only things that are necessary and which you might not already have at home are the essential oils but you can get them online or in a local store easily. You also do not need fresh soy wax, you can melt readymade candles and prepare a whole new one.

Materials Needed:

  • Empty glass container
  • Soy Wax/Candles
  • Dried Lavender (optional)
  • Lavender and Citronella essential oils
  • Cotton Wick
  • Color of Choice (optional)

How You Can Make Lavender Jar Candle at Home

  • Start by melting the wax in a pan. You can put the pot directly over low heat or place it inside a bigger pot with boiling water
  • While the wax is melting, add the wick to the container
  • Next, add the essential oils at 80 degrees and allow two minutes of stirring time to let wax and oils blend seamlessly
  • Stir in your choice of color and mix well
  • Preheat the jar slightly to match the temperatures. You can use a heat gun if you have any or throw the jar in the microwave for a couple of seconds. Then pour the wax and let it set for a couple of hours

Handmade Soap Bars

Okay, so this was new for me too. It was my first time making handmade soap and it was so much fun. I got a basic soap-making kit from Amazon and it did not disappoint. So even if you are a beginner, handling this DIY shouldn’t be difficult.

This is one of the easiest handmade gift ideas for Mother’s Day or you can make these for your mother’s birthday as well. These handmade soap bars are soft, natural, and sweet-smelling.

Materials Needed:

  • Paraben Free Soap Base
  • Silicone Soap Mold
  • Essential Oil of Choice
  • Fragrance of Choice
  • Soap Making Colors of Choice
  • Dried Flowers (optional)

DIY Homemade Soap Bar Recipe for Beginners

  • Start by cutting your soap base into tiny little cubes and put them in a double boiler to melt
  • Once it is melted, you can add any essential oils and fragrances of choice to it
  • Then divide the mixture into different cups if you want to make different colored soaps. I used yellow, orange, and magenta colors. At this point, you can line your silicone soap mold with dried flowers of choice (I used lavender, rose, chamomile, and daisy) and mix some in your separate soap cups too
  • Next, pour the mixture into the mold but you might want to be quick or else it begins to set in the cup-like cold wax
  • Once in the molds, give gentle taps to the side to spread it evenly and let it set for a while. And there you just made homemade soap

Flavored/Herb Salt

I was nervous about this one. I had never made flavored salts and it felt a bit tricky. Turns out, it is as easy as making a salad dressing and requires a little extra time. Here is what you will need:

  • 3-5 Rosemary Sprigs
  • 2-4 Mint Sprigs
  • 5-10 Parsley Sprigs
  • Coarse Sea Salt

How to Make Flavored/Herb Salt at Home

  • First, give all the herbs a rough chop
  • Then throw them into a blender with two spoonfuls of coarse sea salt. You can make it on a mortar and pestle but that is an extensive process. So I stuck with the blender
  • Blend all the ingredients roughly, remember we are not making a puree
  • Then, line a baking tray with parchment paper and spread the blended mixture on it
  • Put it in the oven for 20 minutes at 150 degrees Celsius
  • Once it is cooled down, you can adjust the salt consistency and give it a tiny blend again to break down any chunks
  • Now, pour it into a nice airtight container, wrap a bow around it, and add it to your handmade gift ideas for Mother’s Day

Gradient Bubble Candles

Make these beautiful, colorful, fragrant bubble candles for your mom this Mother’s Day. While these are easy to make and the ingredients are readily available; it does take some time, so make sure to have an hour at your hand. Follow the tutorial and create some delightful joy.

Materials Used:

  • Soy Wax
  • Silicone Bubble Candle Mold
  • Cotton Wicks
  • Colors of Choice
  • Essential Oils of Choice

How to Make Gradient Bubble Candle at Home

  • Begin by melting the wax in a pan. You directly put the pan over low heat or use the double boiler method
  • While the wax is melting, add the wick to the mold using a cotton wick thread and needle
  • Add essential oils at 80 degrees Celsius and allow two minutes of stirring time to let wax and oils blend seamlessly. I used citronella, fresh lime, eucalyptus, and a scent called relaxing (don’t know what that is but smells great)
  • Stir in a small amount of choice of color and mix well
  • Preheat the jar slightly to match the temperatures. You can use a heat gun if you have any or throw the jar in the microwave for a couple of seconds
  • Next, pour the wax with the lightest color at the bottom layer of bubbles and set it aside for setting
  • While your first layer sets, mix a slightly darker shade of the same color and pour it as the second layer once the first layer is 90 percent set
  • Repeat the process with the third layer with the darkest shade out of the three and let it all set for an hour or two
  • For the tricolor candle, you can use the same process with whatever colors you wish to use
  • Demold and enjoy
  • Filled with relaxing scents, these bubbles will make the bath time even more relaxing and fragrant. And these are a wonderful Mother’s Day gift idea.

Image: Homecrux/Rishik Sharma

If you are planning to give something meaningful to a fashionable mother or a mother figure in your life, this DIY gift idea is perfect. You can create these handmade earrings for your mother or mother figure easily. Let’s make one, shall we?

Material Needed:

  • Bronze String Wire (I used 32mm but 80mm works better)
  • White Pearls/Beads With Holes
  • Jewelry Making Plier Set (for bending, beading, and cutter)
  • Earring Hooks

How to Make Earrings at Home

  • Take one foot of wire if you have an 80 mm wire. I folded a one-meter of the 32mm wire four times
  • Then add five beads to the wire
  • Twist and make a hoop of the beads portion. Leave one of the wire ends longer and the other one about 5 inches
  • Start making diagonal wrapping with the longer end around the hoop to create a star-shape
  • Once the star is shaped, coil both ends together to form one thick wire
  • Then add a couple of smaller beads onto it
  • Use a rounded plier to form a loop, while coiling the excess wire nicely
  • Pry open the earring hooks, string the loop in there and close it
  • Repeat the process to make the second earring
  • There you go. You just made a great pair of earrings
