I don’t claim to be a connoisseur of camper trailers, but I like keeping a tab on what’s going on in the overlanding industry. So when I stumbled across the Hawk+ flatbed model truck camper from Four Wheel Campers, I couldn’t resist checking what the Woodland, California-based company had in store for the camping enthusiast.

As brought to light by New Atlas, the camper is designed specifically for heavy-duty trucks with a 7-foot tray. This implies that Hawk is built to fit trucks like the Ford F-250/F-350, Dodge Ram 2500/3500, and Chevy/GMC 2500/3500, basically, the heavy hitters of the full-size truck world. Naturally, it boasts a dry weight of 1882 lbs, which will scale higher with added water, propane, battery, and gear.

The camper’s low-profile, pop-up roof design, a hallmark of Four Wheel Campers, reduces wind resistance and vehicle strain while enhancing fuel efficiency. Construction-wise, the camper is built from a welded aluminum frame that can withstand decades of use across diverse environments.

As mentioned in the press release, “the Hawk+ is Four Wheel Campers’ first fully self-contained flatbed model”, promising unmatched comfort and performance for those seeking to explore off the grid. Unlike traditional slide-in campers, the flatbed design maximizes interior living space and storage, making it ideal for long-term campers.

If you know a thing or two about overlanding, you must be familiar that a flatbed design offers more interior room than slide-in models. The case with Hawk+ is no different. It features an expanded floor plan, a larger dinette, a new front pantry, and pass-through exterior storage with a fold-down table. Additional storage under the cabover bed and in flatbed storage boxes can be used to house extensive gear for overlanding, hiking, skiing, or mountain biking. On top of that, the model is open for customization with options like upgraded upholstery, roof racks, awnings, and more.

Power-wise, the Hawk+ boasts up to 810Ah of lithium battery capacity, paired with 500W of solar power and a ‘REDARC Manager Alpha 75 system’ with a 2000W inverter. This robust power setup ensures you can run appliances, charge devices, and even integrate Starlink Mini for reliable internet connectivity in remote locations. External charge ports further enhance convenience for powering gear outside the camper.

The camper also features a 40-gallon fresh water tank and a built-in grey water tank to support extended trips. Other features include a two-burner induction stove that provides efficient cooking, while the optional cassette toilet (unique to flatbed models) adds a layer of self-contained convenience not found in standard Hawk slide-in models.

The spacious interior, robust power system, and durable construction make Hawk+ a compelling choice for those seeking a reliable, go-anywhere camper. Starting at $44,000, Hawk+ is available for order through Four Wheel Campers dealers or can be preordered from the company’s official website.
