Reusable coffee cups reduce the amount of waste generated from single-use plastic cups. Over their lifecycle, these coffee cups have lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to the disposable alternatives. However, not all reusable coffee cups are biodegradable and recyclable due to the way these cups are made or designed. To that accord, London-based start-up Earthmade has designed Aromacup, which is one hundred percent home-compostable and biodegrades over time in soil and landfills without leaving any residue behind.

These cups are built with an eco-friendly material, Bamboo-O which is made of plant starch and bamboo fibers. Bamboo-O is sourced from unwanted bamboo residue from the Taiwanese industry while the plant starch is sourced from wheat, corn, and potato residue from the agriculture industry. This material enables Aromacup to easily break down and decompose in the soil.

Unlike the other coffee cups, Aromacup features a rotating lid that exposes a drinking hole upon a twist. The rotating lid has a rubber gasket that prevents any leakages. Its ribbed body pattern ensures a secure grip and is aesthetically appealing.

This coffee cup has a shelf life of two years which can be extended if taken good care of. You can either bury it in the soil or put it in the trash whenever you feel like disposing of it. The cup is environmentally friendly and doesn’t leave any waste material after decomposing. It breaks down easily and takes eighteen months to completely biodegrade in the soil.

The Aromacup has a capacity of 10.5oz and a temperature tolerance of up to 14 degrees Fahrenheit to 212 degrees Fahrenheit. This cup is dishwasher safe and is available in five beautiful colors such as marine, aqua, moss, sand, and coral.

The Aromacup is certified for home compostability, is food-safe and plastic-free, and promotes sustainability. It is currently up on Kickstarter for a crowdfunding campaign where you can get it for an early bird price of £13 (roughly $17).
