We all have a towel bar in every bathroom. It’s an essential part of the space and brings out quite the convenience when you are showering and need something to hang your towel. While a towel bar adds style and functionality to your space, sometimes it can come out unhinged from the wall and leave damaged drywall behind if not installed properly.

That’s why it is important to know the right DIY installation process for your towel bar to be secured on the wall. There are many criteria that you must consider before installing, such as height, measure, and mark the holes for the mounting brackets.

Towel bar comes in different sizes. So, before you make your purchase, you must measure the intended spot and get the best bar suited. Additionally, it is important to determine the mounting height for your towel bar. The common mounting heights are 30 inches for children and 48 inches for adults. To install the towel bar securely by yourself, you can follow these simple steps to know how to get the work done properly.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Drywall anchors
  • Towel Rack
  • Hammer
  • Screwdriver
  • Pencil
  • Masking tape
  • Measuring tape
  • Stud finder
  • Level
  • Drill bit
  • Drill
  • Securing mounting plates

How to Install a Towel Bar Yourself

Measure and Mark the Area

First things first: use a stud finder and mark the area on the wall from end to end where you want your towel bar to be installed. Then, measure the height and make sure it is at a comfortable level, accessible to all the members in the house. When you have marked the desired location of the mounting brackets, just mark the area with a pencil. You can check the marks with a level to ensure they are in the right spot.

Drill Holes in the Wall

For the second step, you need to drill holes on each mark for securing the mounting plates. Make sure you use proper bits for your screws and anchors. If you mount directly into a stud, you need a slightly smaller screw. However, if you use drywall anchors, you need to use a bit size stated for your anchor.

Drive the Anchor Into the Drywall

If you are using an anchor, simply drive it in with a hammer. Next, use screws to attach the brackets. However, if you are not using an anchor, attach the mounting plate with a drill or screwdriver to drive the screws into pre-made holes.

Securing Towel Bar Brackets

You can use the set screw and wrench provided with your towel bar to attach one of the brackets. Remove the brackets from the towel bar and mount them on the wall using the screws.

Hang Towel Bar

For the last step, you can slide the towel bar onto the bracket and secure it with the set screw. You can put a slight pressure on it just to make sure that it’s fortified and will hold. Now, hang the towel.

Final Word

Now that you have gotten the idea of how to firmly install a towel bar by yourself, there are other things that you can do to increase the life of your towel bar. For example, refrain from overburdening a towel bar with heavy towels. These simple steps will ensure the longevity of your towel bar, as a sturdy, well-placed towel bar can make a difference in your bathroom.
