InFarm’s microgarden kit brings indoor farming to your kitchen counter

If you are a city dweller and have dreamt of having your own garden where you could grow your own veggies, then the Mcrogarden Kit is exactly what you need. With an ambition to provide the urban communities the freedom of growing local, fresh and organic vegetables as well as fruits at any time of the year, Berlin’s indoor farming startup InFarm teamed up with Swedish design studio Tomorrow Machine to create this miniature indoor greenhouse. The most amazing thing about this mini indoor garden kit is that it can grow delicious microgreens without the need of watering them.

Inspired by Japanese origami art, the microgarden kit contains organic microgreen seeds that grow rapidly in daylight and partly in the dark, ensuring healthy and pesticide-free fruits or vegetables. The mini garden makes use of a transparent seaweed-based agar-agar gel that serves as a growing medium for the plant and provides moisture. The edible seeds and the agar-agar gel is added to a transparent reusable and recyclable plastic, which can be folded to form a mini cone-shaped greenhouse. You can watch seeds grow within a week or two through transparent plastic walls of the microgarden.

The innovative project is currently seeking funding at Indiegogo to kick-start the project. This project is envisioned as ‘next generation of indoor farming’ by its creators, which serves as an economic and space-efficient way to grow fresh and healthy microgreens even at your kitchen counter. Watch the video clip below to see how it works.
