One of the most common challenges during car camping is finding enough living space to comfortably accommodate families of more than four. That is where the Family Room by Portuguese outdoor gear brand James Baroud comes into play. Designed as an extension to your rooftop tent or vehicle, it adds a connected, sheltered area to share the outdoors with family or friends. What makes it stand out is that the space can be directly accessed from the rooftop tent via a tunnel.
The Family Room tent is like a full extra room with four walls and a floor, where you can relax with your family or make additional sleeping space for kids or pets. A rear zippered opening lets you move between your car and the room through the side doors without stepping outside. There is also a tunnel that connects directly to the rooftop tent. It works with most James Baroud rooftop tents.
This ground tent measures 118 inches (300 cm) wide, 87 inches (220 cm) long, and reaches a maximum height of 79 inches (200 cm) when fully set up – tall enough for most adults to stand comfortably inside. As shown in the photos, there is plenty of room to fit a table and 3-4 chairs, making it ideal for group dining or relaxing.
The Family Room folds down into a compact awning that attaches neatly to your roof rack, allowing you to keep your vehicle’s interior free for other gear. Weighing just 43 kg (95 lbs), it adds minimal weight to your setup. Its lightweight and user-friendly structure makes it easy for one person to pack it away in under five minutes.

From materials to design, every detail of the Family Room tent is thoughtfully considered for family camping trips. It is made from high-quality fabrics that resist scratches, scuffs, and fading, ensuring long-lasting use. A wide tunnel opening lets in more natural light and improves visibility, making it easier to keep an eye on kids, pets, or gear.
For added convenience, the floor is fully removable via a zip system, allowing you to clean it separately. As noted by GearJunkie, the James Baroud Family Room will be available to US customers in mid-July.
